If your device has Google services, a cast button sits in the top bar while you browse and appears with the player controls while you watch. Pick your Chromecast and the picture moves across at the point you had reached; end the session and it comes back.
While a cast session is running, a Casting to … bar sits above the menu on every screen, with a Stop button — so you can always end it from inside the app.
What a Chromecast can and cannot play
A Chromecast plays some stream formats and not others, and a fair number of live channels use the formats it cannot. This is a limitation of the Chromecast, not of the app or your subscription.
- Films, series and most modern channels cast without trouble.
- Where the app can tell in advance that the Chromecast will refuse a channel, it says so and keeps playing on your device. You can still press Cast anyway if you want to try.
- Where it cannot tell in advance, it casts — and if the Chromecast rejects the stream you get the same explanation with a Play on this device button, rather than a black television.
Android TV boxes and Fire TV sticks usually have no Google services at all, so the cast button simply does not appear on them. That is expected — they are already the television.
