Tap the picture and press Record. The recording starts immediately and a notification appears that you can stop from anywhere, without going back into the app.
It does not use a second connection
Most subscriptions allow one stream at a time, so opening a second one to record would cut off your picture. Instead the app writes to the file exactly what it is already receiving. Recording therefore costs you no extra bandwidth and never interferes with what you are watching.
What that means in practice
- Changing channel ends the recording, so that two programmes do not end up in one file.
- Leaving the player ends the recording. You are asked to confirm first.
- Recording is unavailable while casting, because the stream then goes straight from your provider to the Chromecast and never passes through your device.
- Recording a film works, but do not use the seek bar while it records — the file is written in the order it arrives, and jumping about produces one that will not play back cleanly.
