Pause and catch-up are unavailable on a channel Print

Pausing live television means playing your provider's recording of it. Where they keep no recording of a channel, there is nothing to pause into, and the app says so rather than letting the button appear to do nothing.

Why a channel might have none

  • Your provider records some channels and not others. This is their decision and varies by package.
  • Some channels advertise catch-up that does not actually work. Rather than trust that, the app tries once and remembers the real answer for that channel, so it never offers you something that will fail.
  • How far back you can go is set by your provider — commonly a few days.
  • On some providers the recording can only be started at whole minutes, so dragging the bar moves in minute steps rather than smoothly. That is how their server hands the recording over, and there is nothing on your device that changes it.

If a channel you expect to have catch-up does not, ask your provider whether it is included in your package. Nothing on your device changes it.

A programme from a few days ago takes a little longer to start than one from this morning. That is your provider assembling a longer recording, and it is normal.
