A Chromecast can only play certain stream formats, and many live channels use one it cannot. When the app can tell in advance it warns you; when it cannot, the Chromecast accepts the stream and then shows nothing.
What to do
- Press Play on this device when the app offers it, and watch on the phone or tablet instead.
- Try a film or a series episode. If those cast correctly, the Chromecast is working and the channel's format is the problem — nothing is broken.
- Stop the session with the Stop button in the Casting to … bar, which is on every screen while a session is running.
There is no setting that changes this. It is what the Chromecast hardware supports.
If you cast to a television regularly, an Android TV box or a Fire TV stick running Stream Player directly avoids the problem completely — the app is then on the television, with no casting involved.
